Yes you are reading right, after successfully rolling off the production line of the first all electric Explorer at the Cologne EV facility, the company is ready to work for futures EV. Ford revealed its electric Explorer last March. It is a family oriented five seat electric SUV aimed at the European market. It is built on the same Volkswagen’s MEB platform as of ID.4. However, according to Ford plans the production of EV was expected to begin before the end of 2023, but it got delayed until last summer to meet the criteria of new global safety rules.
On Tuesday, Ford announced that the mass production of EV has started at the new dedicated Cologen EV center.
According to Martin Sander, head of Ford’s Europe EV unit, The Explorer EV is a better vehicle now than we would have launched half a year ago. The extra time the brand took was used to get everything nailed down and to make sure that we are delivering a perfect vehicle to our customers.
Key features of The Explorer
The coming electric SUV is available in a single-motor RWD and a dual-motor AWD version in Europe. Also the single-motor model is fitted with a 77-kWh battery whereas the dual-motor offers VW’s 335 hp powertrain and a 79-kWh battery. The maximum range of the EV is over 374 miles (600 km) on a single charge. Apart from that both the models are equipped with an extended-range NMC battery.
A standard-range NMC battery will be available at a later date with the expected price tag of around £39,875 ($50,000). Although the prices of single-motor is starts at £45,875 ($58,000),
In the line of EV expansion Ford said that the brand is ready to reveal new sports EV crossover in near future ahead of the SOP later this year. Auto Express spotted the new EV while testing late last year, which is expected to be an electric Ford Capri.
