Is it true? Are you ready to see an electric Hyundai or Kia pickup? A recent buzz that the Ford’s F-150 Lightning was recently spotted with Korean test plates near Hyundai’s facility. It is raising the expectations of fans as the EV pickup may come in the near future.
We all are well aware regarding Kia’s announcement to launch an electric pickup. For that Kia has revealed two electric pickups : one dedicated model and another strategic one for emerging markets.
Kia suggests “electric versions of these models will be produced locally” starting this year, however the US market is full of mid-size SUVs and trucks. As a commitment Kia began EV9 SUV production at its Georgia plant in May.
On the other hand Hyundai has confirmed it will reveal its first three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9, later this year.
As it showcases that there are no words for the electric pickups. But Kia has already shared the images of The Tasman, its first pickup before going to official debut later this year. It is said the truck will roll out in Korea, Australia, Africa, and the Middle East in the first half of 2025. But there is no official announcement about when it will launch in the U.S.
The electric pickup built by Hyundai or Kia will be based on the E-GMP platform. It features the same 379 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque just as Kia’s three-row electric SUV. It can also tow up to 5,000 lbs and sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds. Further it also features KV9’s revamped design theme with a new “Digital Tiger Face” grille.
Apart from pickup Kia is also planning to launch the EV9 GT with “enormous power” in January. It comes with an AWD dual-motor system, which boosts up to 0 to 62 mph in just 4 seconds.
