Finally, we all saw the first look of the Porsche Macan EV this week. This announcement came ten years after the debuting of the SUV. The electric Macan is the brand’s second EV in the lineup, after the Taycan and is the first fully iconic electric SUV.
It is said that the Macan EV is also the first existing Porsche model that receive an all electric transition. The Maccan features a 100 kWH battery pack supplied by the Chinese battery manufacturing company CATL. Last year the brand sold approx 87,355 Macan models that makes it one of the crucial models in Porsche’s lineup.
According to a new report from Mobile China reveals that Porsche’s new electric Macam will use batteries form leading Chinese battery supplier CLTL. It is looking like the Porsche is going on the same battery preference as the Volkswagen that is using CALT’s batteries for it’s ID series.
Porsche’s new electric SUV comes in two different versions :- The Macan 4 and Macan Turbo. Powered with a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery the Macan 4 features up to 381 miles (613 km) of estimated WLTP range. On the other side, Macan Turbo powered with the 630 horsepower (833 lb-ft) that boasts the range up to 361 miles (591 km) according to WLTP estimates. It also goes to 0-100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds.
CALT is one of the leading electric battery brands that accumulated 37.4% of market shares through November 2023. Currently CALT supplies its batteries to Tesla, Ford, Hyundai, BMW, Volvo, Toyota and others.
However CALT has recently revealed its several new battery innovations. IN 2022 CALT launched its Quilin Battery that offers 13% more power. Following the new Shenxing superfast charging battery that was unveiled by the brand in August. The brand claims it can add 248 miles (400 km) with a ten minute-quick charge.
The CALT provided battery of 100 kWh gets charged with the DC fast charging of up to 270 kW and can charge from 10 % to 80% only in just 21 minutes. Also at 400V stations, a high-voltage switch splits the battery into two for efficient charging. Porsche also tells the pricing of its new electric cars. The Porsche Macan 4 EV will come with the starting price tag of $78,800, while the Turbo version comes in at $105,300 with the expected deliveries to begin in the second half of the year.
