Tesla has now confirmed that the brand is working on a wireless inductive home charger for its electric cars. This announcement comes after the brand showed no interest in wireless charging technology until the brand teases early in this year.
This technological adoption by Tesla marks a significant shift away from the traditional charging methods. Tesla’s move towards wireless charging further aligns with brand video of autonomous driving technology. As in the future when cars are fitted with self-driving technology, the ability for vehicles to autonomously charge without human intervention becomes valuable with time.
Over the past, Tesla has favored an automated robot arm over wireless charging to complete this task, but things have changed recently. Earlier this year, Tesla teased its users with a picture of a new wireless home charging station, but did not provide any other details. This further confirmed by the company activities as the brand briefly a startup focused on wireless charging before selling it back, integrating some of its staff in the process.
In a YouTube video about Cybertruck, Tesla Chief designer Fanz Von Honlzhausen confirmed that Tesla is working on wireless home charging technology. He further stated that, “We are working on inductive charging. You don’t even need to plug anything in at that point. You just drive over the pad in your garage and you start charging.” However, specific details about the product are still limited.
Tesla’s new wireless home charging technology will quite excite the users but the major cause of concern will be the cost of it. As It is already expensive to install a home EV charger. Users need both the charter and an inductive pad embedded in the concrete. But for those who are enthusiastic for new technology and can afford this, wireless home charger is a good option.
