The recent report Zero-Emission Vehicles Factbook prepared By BloombergNEF (BNEF) especially for the COP28 summit shows the larger picture of sustainable transportation transition.
The 71 page report has a lot of data under the pages but the Hydrogen Vehicles sales is grabbing our eyes on it.
The BNEF collected the data related to zero-emission vehicle sales from 2015 through 2023 and represented that on charts in its report. That included both- fully battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs). If you are actively watching the growing market, you will definitely know the tussle between both technologies. But the decade old debate which technology path would do better now gets clarified. Also the Chart in the report further proves that fuel cell vehicles lost in this battle.
In the above chart the barely visible purple color represented the FCV sales. The Fuel cell vehicles made of Hydrogen lost the battle. They occupied a very very tiny portion of the zero-emission vehicle sales. Reports from the past predict that but still this might be disheartened for the many hydrogen fans. Even the last BNEF report shows the same tiny portion of the FCV sales but still BNEF includes them is hilarious.
Now look at only FCV sales:
