Here is another great news for you from the electric vehicle giant VW. The brand is gearing up to launch its new range of low-cost electric vehicles (EVs) by 2027.It is anticipated that the price point will be around $21,800 (20,000 euros). The news came despite the brand having recently ended its partnership with Renault to develop an entry-level EV. Now Volkswagen is committed to producing affordable electric cars independently.
Also last week, Volkswagen said it was still looking at its options for affordable EVs. Meanwhile, after failing to find an agreement with VW, Renault still plans to launch a low-cost Twingo e-Tech successor, starting around the same price. Adding into the brand is also said that a world premier was planned for 2027.
A recent report by Reuters reveals, VW plans to unveil its new affordable EVs in 2017. Volkswagen still wants prices around $21,80000 (20,000 euros)
The German automaker revealed the ID 2all concept in March, showcasing a concept design that combines the spaciousness of a Golf with the affordability of a Polo. This entry-level EV is expected to start under $27,000 (25,000 euros), but VW is aiming for an even cheaper model, likely named the ID 1. The EV is built on a modified MEB platform that promises a range of up to 279 miles (450 km). Also the ID 1 will share components with the ID 2all, featuring smaller battery options of 38 or 58 kWh.
Additionally, Volkswagen has also teased an ID 2all SUV that is set to debut in 2026, that further expands the brand lineup of accessible electric vehicles. This strategic move underscores VW’s dedication to making EVs more affordable and accessible to a broader audience.
