NIO has officially launched it’s EL8 SUV in five EU markets including :- Norway, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark. Despite recent tariffs on Chinese-made EVs imported into Europe, the move of the NIO underscores it’s commitment to European sales despite looming import fees.
Founded in China, NIO has spent ten years advancing its electric vehicle technology. NIO has started it’s EV journey with the ES 8 SUV and is now selling five all-electric models in the EU: ET7, ES7, ET5, ET5T and ES6. Now the EL8 is the sixth NIO’s EV ready to come to the European market.
EL8 is the new EV launched by the NIO in Europe. NIO’s post on its Weibo page reveals that the brand has officially launched the EL8 SUV in Europe, beginning sales in Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark.
The new EV models features NIO’s NT 2.0 platform, a cockpit chip upgrade and two electric motors that deliver a maximum output of 480 kW with enabling acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h time of 4.1 seconds. The EL8 will benefit from NIO’s growing European charging infrastructure, which includes 43 battery swap stations, 45 regional supercharger, and access to over 600,000 third-party chargers.
The concerns raised as the launch comes amid the EU Commission’s announcement of tariffs on Chinese vehicles by up to 48%. According to CnEVPost, NIO faces 21% tariffs on its imported models. NIO has publicly criticized the tariffs but remains committed to expanding in Europe.
The EU tariffs are expected to go into effect on July 4, but Germany and other countries contest the tariffs, arguing that they hurt local OEMs who export their Europe-built vehicles to China. Despite the challenges, NIO is unwavering in its goal to become a leading EV automaker in Europe. The EL8 launch is a testament to this resolve, reflecting the company’s determination to grow its presence in the region.
