As the future of the mobility market largely depends on how the new innovation and tech makes the EV’s more convenient and approachable. To keep that thought in mind, Hyundai Motors and Kia Corporation introduced a new drive system during the “Uni Wheel Tech Day’ event, held in Seoul.
The “Uni Wheel” or Universal Wheel Drive System, is a new one introduced by Hyundai Motors and Kia Corporation. The Uni Wheel is used to move main components to the wheel hub. The new system will create the additional space in the given vehicle’s interior. The system utilises a special planetary gear configuration that consists of sun gear in the center with four pinion gears on each side and a ring gear surrounding everything.
As the every necessary design, mechanical and tech component of the mobility market get changed to make it more electric friendly but the drivetrain is still lagging behind in the race of modification towards electric vehicle friendly. But the presentation of the Uni Wheel by Kia and Hyundai is potentially a game changer.
In the press release on the event, Hyundai and Kia Described new “Uni Wheel system” as a “paradigm-shifting vehicle drive system,” the Uni Wheel uniquely moves the main drive system components to the vacant space within an EV’s wheel hub.
As per company information it is not clear when this new system get integrated into an actual EV remains uncertain at this point, but Kia and Hyundai Motor state they have already applied for and registered eight patents related to the technology in South Korea, the US, and Europe.
To meet the needs of the future customer, Hyundai and Kia say that they plan to perfect the Uni Wheel System continuously with the time so that costumes can experience an unprecedented new way of mobility. This latest innovation will revolutionized the future of the Electric Vehicle segment.
