After a leak of some details from Rivian’s website Rivian has finally unveiled its next-generation electric vehicle – the R2 electric SUV. It will be the smaller and more affordable follow-up to its flagship R1S SUV. also At the event Rivian’s CEO, RJ Scaringo, vows that the R2 keeps the “essence of the brand” in a smaller, more affordable package.
Specs And Technology
The R2 will come with different variants such as – a single motor RWD, dual motor AWD and tri-motor AWD over 300 miles (483 km) of range for all variants. Where the tri-motor version will get from 0 to 60 mph in “less than 3 seconds”, which is bringing the SUV into superior territory. For dimension R2 will be the same in size as the Tesla Model Y Length – 4715 mm; Height – 1700mm and wheelbase -2935 mm.
Apart from that it will feature hands-free and attention free autonomous driving on highways that makes it level 3 self-driving.
Additional Accessories
Rivian is also planning a series of new accessories to enable it more adventure. The accessories that attached with the R2 and other future vehicle are the Integrated Bike Racks, a open to storage accessory which allows it to function like a mini pickup truck with small wheels, a Rooftop Tent that folds into a small Thule-type of roof box and the most anticipated Camp Kitchen.
Pricing And Arrival
From the leaked details it is expected that the vehicle will come with the starting price tag of $47,000 but the unveiling changes the expectations. RJ actually announces a starting price of $45,000. It could be competitive prices and have direct competition with several other electric SUVs in the segments. And Rivian aims to bring the vehicle to market in “the first half of 2026.”
