Volvo is aiming to expand it’s all-electric equipment options in this row Volvo Electric Construction (VCE) has added three new mid-size electric construction machines in the process to make the industry with zero-emission.
The added three electric machinery are :- the all-new L120 Electric Wheel Loader, L90 Electric Wheel Loader, and EWR150 Electric Wheeled Excavator. They will join Volvo’s CE’s already BEV equipment offerings to help support its customer’s ESG goals and fossil-free ambitions.
Our dedication to creating a better world hinges on driving sustainable change across various equipment types and sizes,” says Elodie Guyot, Head of Electromobility Sales for Europe at Volvo CE. “We already have reliable electric solutions in our compact portfolio and an expanding part of our mid-size range. We are thrilled to further this commitment with three new medium-sized zero-emission innovations, each benefiting from our high-performing, industry-leading electric technology.”
Let’s have a look on Electric Machinery one-by-one:-
1. L90 Electric Wheel Loader
Volvo’s L90 Electric Wheel Loader represents the brand’s significant innovative development in the field of electric construction equipment. It is designed to meet the needs of modern, sustainable construction practices. The L90 Electric is a first in the electric wheel loader class. It offers zero exhaust emissions and operates with much less noise than its diesel counterparts, which makes it suitable for use in noise-sensitive areas and low-carbon zones. Its impressive battery capacity ensures a reliable runtime and is capable of handling a full day’s work on a single charge in light applications and about 4-5 hours in medium-duty tasks. The electric drive motors also feature an energy recovery function that recaptures energy during deceleration, enhancing both efficiency and brake life.
Key features of the L90 Electric include 15-ton operating weight and a dedicated electric motor for both propulsion and hydraulic functions. This allows for response in less times and shorter cycle times compared to traditional models. The loader can be charged from 0-100% in about 70 minutes with a 150 kW DC fast charger, or overnight with a 6-7 hour charge using an AC on-board cable. The electric platform also brings a 65% reduction in energy costs and 30% less maintenance, as it eliminates many engine-related consumables. The L90 Electric not only improves productivity but also provides a more pleasant working environment, with enhanced operator comfort due to reduced noise and vibrations
2. L120 Electric Wheel Loader
The L120H Electric Wheel Loader is Volvo’s pioneer piece of heavy machinery that combines Volvo’s renowned durability with advanced electric technology. This electric wheel loader is designed to offer the same high performance and reliability as its diesel counterpart but with the added benefits of reduced emissions and lower operating costs. Key features of the L120 Electric Wheel Loader include a robust lithium-ion battery pack that ensures extended operation times, fast-charging capabilities to minimize downtime, and a powerful electric drivetrain that delivers smooth and efficient performance.
L120H Electric Wheel Loader shows the brand’s commitment to sustainability without compromising on power. The loader offers impressive capabilities with 6-ton lifting capacity and breakout force comparable to traditional models, which is making it ideal for a range of heavy-duty applications. Volvo’s integration of smart technology, including advanced telematics and intuitive controls, enhances the overall user experience, ensuring that operators can work more efficiently and safely. The Loader can charge from 10-100% in one hour 40 minutes with a 180 kW DC fast charger or Volvo’s own PU500 mobile unit.
3. EWR150 Electric Wheeled Excavator
The Volvo EWR150 Electric Wheeled Excavator is brand’s another testament to the future of sustainable construction. Due to its design and built as an electric vehicle. Volvo says the EWR150 Electric is different from other wheeled excavators in this class. This state-of-the-art machine boasts an electric powertrain that not only reduces emissions but also significantly lowers operating costs. With zero exhaust emissions and quieter operation, the EWR150 is ideal for construction, road work, utility installation, and landscaping operations with improved telematics. Its advanced battery technology ensures extended operational hours, while fast charging capabilities minimize downtime.
The EWR150 Electric Wheeled Excavator offers the same power and versatility as its diesel counterpart with more comfort. It features a compact design for manoeuvring in tight spaces. The ergonomic cab is equipped with it for intuitive controls, Also there is a high-resolution display for enhanced operator comfort and efficiency. Additionally, Volvo’s telematics system provides real-time data and remote diagnostics that ensures optimal machine uptime and productivity. This excavator is not just a step towards sustainable construction but a leap towards a smarter, more efficient future in heavy machinery. However the brand hasn’t revealed battery specs or detailed information about its new EV’s motors or hydraulics but expect to match the good standards.
