Hyundai is working on it’s electric vehicle lineup and the latest addition is a three-row electric SUV, the IONIQ 9. The news broke out when the EV spotted testing in the U.S. ahead of its debut. Hyundai is already working to grab the market of it’s rival in the US market with its wide-ranging lineup of affordable, efficient EVs, including the IONIQ 5, IONIQ6, and Kona Electric.
It shows the clear strategy of Hyundai, to provide affordable and efficient electric vehicles that cater to the wide range of its consumers. Hyundai Motor America CEO Randy Parker emphasized the strong demand for their vehicles, especially EVs, stating, “ Demand for our vehicles, especially EVs, remains high” after the record-setting performance.
Also the data from the US Department of Energy shows that Hyundai has six of the top ten most fuel-efficient EVs in the US this year. The 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Long Range RWD (w/ 18” wheels) placed first, topping the Lucid Air Pure with 140 MPGe.
Initially named as IONIQ7, the Hyundai IONIQ 9 is the brand’s larger electric SUV to place above the IONIQ 5. The brand hasn’t said anything about the launch date and further details. However there were many times when Hyundai IONIQ9 has been spotted testing several times ahead of its official debut.
This time also a video from Kindel Auto shows the IONIQ 9 testing in the U.S. The video gave a glimpse of the big body of an electric SUV. The coming electric SUV features the brand’s signature pixelated LED headlights resembling the IONIQ5 and IONIQ6 models. The EV also has stacked LED rear taillights.
It is expected that the Hyundai IONIQ 9 could be larger than the new Kia EV9. While theEV9 measures 197.2-inches in length, 77.9-inches in width, and 70.12-inches in height, the IONIQ 9 appears slightly bigger and less boxy, due to its more sloped A-pillar. The given dimensions of IONIQ 9 aims to offer ample interior space, potentially exceeding the EV9’s 42.8-inches of legroom.
It is also expected that the IONIQ9 is to be produced at Hyundai’s new $7.6 billion EV Metaplant in Georgia. This facility is meant to help Hyundai’s EVs qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit, enhancing their competitiveness in the US market. Also once it start operation the plant will further enhance the Hyundai’s position as a leader in the EV space.
Straightly rival the Rivian R1S, Kia EV9, Volvo EX90, and many more EVs the IONIQ 9 make the electric segment quite competitive. The brand emphasizes design, space, and technology to make the IONIQ 9 a standout choice of the consumers who are looking for a family-friendly electric SUV.
