On Thursday, Toyota finally unveiled its other EV, the Toyota Urban Cruiser EV. It is another EV of the brand to get its place in the growing market of electric vehicles.
The coming Toyota Urban Cruiser is the automaker’s second electric SUV which is following the bZ4X. It features fresh styling and a new dedicated EV platform, the Urban Cruiser EV, making it unique from Toyota’s other models.
Toyota said its “ impactful lines” are a new defining quality as it looks to gain an edge over rivals. It is also an official successor to the gas-powered model, which was discontinued in 2014.
The size of the electric SUV is about 4,285 mm long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,640 mm tall, making it slightly bigger than its popular Yaris Cross, with a longer wheelbase at 2,700 mm.
Other noticeable features is the new “hammerhead” front-end design. The front and rear ends feature sleek curves with a full-length light arrangement accessing the back. Toyota said the “Urban Tech” design gives it a commanding presence at every angle.
The new platform also serves as the foundation for Suzuki’s e-Vitara electric SUV, revealed last month. This marks the first EV collaboration between the two Japanese automakers, showcasing their strengthened alliance in the transition to electric mobility. Like it also has 49 and 61-kWh battery pack options.
The FWD version will exclusively generate 142 hp (106 kW), while the higher-powered model produces 172 hp (128 kW). Meanwhile, the AWD variant, equipped with the larger battery, delivers 181 hp (135 kW). The new AMD system includes Downhill Assist Control and Trail Mode for added traction, while Snow Mode in the FWD model makes it easier to get around on snow-covered roads.
