One of the most awaited Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is just a month away. This time the event got the attention of everyone. Why? Because it is the first time in the event’s history that an all electric car is taking part. The Acura ZDX Type S will lead the annual 12.42-mile climb up Pikes Peak. With this the automaker has continued the tradition of capturing pace position with it’s all-electric car.
It is the 102th edition of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb annual race. This year the climb will take place on June 23, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is the event for which the automakers eagerly awaited to showcase their best performance vehicles.
It’s the 10th time that Acura took part in the race as the official pace car provider but the interesting fact is it is a BEV. The top-tier ZDX Type S will lead the pack up the 14,115-foot summit at Pikes Peak, where competitors will encounter 156 turns up to 12.42-mile climb.
With innovation and performance improvement in the electric vehicle now EVs also have begun to shine during the “Race to the Clouds,” from recent years. During the 2023 Hill Climb, we see Ford Performance brought a modded-up E-Transit called the “Supervan.” And the recent edition will turn some more heads this year with a customized version of the F-150 Lightning.
Other renowned brands participated in the race are Hyundai with BEV with the aim of targeting some records with it’s IONIQ 5 N- a track-centric version of the original passenger vehicle that also looked at Laguna Seca Raceway and had an absolute blast with.
Apart from that you will also see many other EVs competing at Pikes Peak 2024, but the limelight is on the first all-electric vehicle that will lead the climb as the pace car. And the position to lead that is given to the recently released Acura ZDX Type S.
The other cars participating in the same segment are Acura and Honda Racing Corporation USA’s two vehicles but the lack is they are not electric, so the overall focus will go to the ZDX pace car.
