Range Rover is ready to hit the electric market with its smaller electric SUV, likely the Velar that will hit the market soon. The step comes after the brand has successfully launched its electric and sports EVs. It will be the brand’s first SUV and is expected to hit the road in early 2025.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) CEO Adrian Mardell has recently confirmed that the first EV to ride on its new EMA platform will launch in less than two years. He said, “We’ll first have MLA BEV, with Range ROver BEV later next year, then it’s the first vehicle off EMA, which will probably be springtime in 2026.”
Whereas the Range Rover Electric and Sport EVs share the same MLA platform as the current gas platform. It is said that the Range Rover’s new model will be based on the company’s new EMA platform that is missing in the brand’s flagship EV.
The Range Rover’s smaller Velar electric SUV model has already been spotted while testing ahead of its official debut. We all get the first glimpse of a smaller SUV in August when the EV was being delivered on a transporter to JLR’s Nurburgring test facility.
The first EMA-based electric car model will launch with some new technology. Including hands-free, eyes on driving technology features a spokesperson told Autocar.
JLR also said the electric SUV has already secured over 48,000 clients on its waitlist. Also according to JLR, its customers are using PHEVs “as a stepping stone towards battery electric vehicles (BEVs).” The Range Rover Electric will make its first appearance shortly.
