German automobile manufacturer VW has recently announced a midlife refresh of the current Golf Mk VIII lineup, and the PHEV GTE is getting some impressive updates.

In the brand’s aim to broaden its market VW has updated its electric lineup. As part of the 2025 update, the new Golf GTE is fitted with a more powerful battery of 19.7 kWh nearly doubling from the old car’s 10.6 kWh pack. For charging buyers will use 11 kW onboard AC charging and 50 kW DC charging, which make it get easily charged. The GTE will cover a 100 km (62 miles) of good range, which makes it perfectly suited in the European market where mostly-electric use is the same case.

For power output VW isn’t breaking out the ICE versus electric portions of the system. But the GTE will make a total output of 268 hp (200kW) at its peak. Also a less-powerful Golf eHybrid is following the debut along with the GTE. It is said the Gold eHybrid has a noticeable difference of a system power of 201 horsepower (150kW).

Meanwhile the Golf PHEVs will come with VW’s new MIB4 software platform. Which offers an improved performance and usability with an updated interface. This system debuted with the launch of all-electric ID.7, which has been available in Europe in limited quantities since late 2023.

Talking about its interior the New Golf GTE looks like a GTI – conservative, tartan and very nicely appointed for a car that ostensibly seems like an economy hatchback. VW hasn’t told much about spec and pricing, but is likely to be announced soon.
