The next generation of Mercedes-Benz luxury electric vans is nearing its debut. Built on the new VAN.EA platform, Mercedes’ first luxury electric van is currently undergoing winter testing in Arjeplog, Sweden. This advanced platform will serve as the foundation for a range of high-end vans, including VIP shuttles, luxury limousines, and premium multi-purpose vehicles.

Mercedes, already a leader in the van market, plans to transition all its electric vans to the Van Electric Architecture (VAN.EA) starting next year. Unveiled nearly two years ago, the platform was designed with modularity in mind, allowing company to easily adapt it for different van types.

The architecture consists of three key modules: the front section houses the electric powertrain, the middle module determines vehicle size, and the rear module can accommodate an additional electric motor for all-wheel-drive (AWD) capabilities. With 4MATIC AWD, Mercedes claims the vans will deliver an extended driving range and top-tier performance in all weather conditions.

While full specifications will be announced closer to launch, the new electric vans will be based on an 800V system, ensuring fast charging speeds. They will also integrate Mercedes’ MB.OS, a next-generation operating system that powers everything from infotainment to autonomous driving features.

After beginning public road tests late last year, company has now moved to extreme winter testing in Sweden to refine performance and efficiency. The VAN.EA lineup will include multiple versions for private and business use. The VAN.EA-P variant is designed for personal luxury, mobile offices, and family activities, while the VAN.EA-C version will cater to commercial applications like parcel delivery, logistics, and even larger vehicles like campers and RVs. Mercedes aims for EVs to make up 20% of its van sales by the end of next year and plans to have half of all van sales be electric by 2030.
