A picture of the electric supercar drifting across a frozen lake gives the glimpse of Mercedes-AMG’s upcoming supercar. The sporty Mercedes-AMG EV will be the rival of Porches’ recently launched Turbo GT and Hp Lucid Air Sapphire.
Mercedes-AMG sport electric supercar will be the company’s first standalone EV underpinned by its dedicated AMG.EA performance platform. This platform is known to be the “technological trailblazer” powered by several new innovations. However it is still in its early states of testing. Further the concept is based on axial-flux motor tech developed by Mercedes-owned Yasa, acquired by the company in 2021.
Yasa helps Mercedes to develop axial EV motors for all-electric AMG performance models. Yasa also claims its tech provides four times more torque and double the power of nearly all current EV tech while being 50% lighter. The power unit will be used in addition to a new high-performance, high-voltage battery.
It looks like the electric supercar’s design is drawn from the Vision AMG concept that the company had revealed in 2022. Also this supercar sport EV is much sleeker and lower to the ground then other Mercedes EVs.
To make it more competitive and revolutionary Mercedes made its design closer to that of the Porsche Taycan or Lucid Air for added performance. The rear and front lights are covered.
Mercedes-AMG said its new performance platform is still at the early state of a “demanding and comprehensive test plan.” It will span several types of terrain on different continents. The new pictures show the Mercedes-AMG electric supercar testing on a frozen lake in Sweden with Temps as Low as-13F (-25C).
However Mercedes has not revealed the prices or specs for the EV supercar, but it is expected that it will not be cheap. With Mercedes-AMG EV the brand is aiming to compete with high-performance EVs like the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Lucid Air Sapphire, and Tesla Model S Plaid.
