Sources reveled that Hyundai is developing an electric version of its flagship SUV, Santa FE and a new EV pickup truck for the US. It the another step of the Honda in the EV expansion.
In USA, Santa FE is Hyundai’s second-best-selling SUV, which over 65,600 models has been sold out through July that is more than double brand’s IONIQ 5 and 6 all together.
Also an industry sources revealed on Tuesday that Hyundai is developing a next-gen powertrain for extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs). This system includes a fuel-based power unit to extend an electric vehicle’s range. It also have an electric generator chargers that enabled the vehicle’s battery for longer ranges.
Hyundai is aiming to lead the massive US pickup truck market, according to a report from Naver last week. A report also claimed that Hyundai completed a teardown of the Tesla Cybertruck last month as it prepared to take on the US market.
A Ford F-150Lightning was also spotted with Korean test plates near Hyundai’s facility last month. Also as per S&P Global Mobility registration data, Tesla’s Cybertruck was the fifth top-selling EV in the US in May where as the Ford’s F-150 Lighting was at number 10.
In US there lot’s of leading electric pickup brands such as Ford’s F-series, the Chevy Silverado, Ram with whom Hyundai has to compete. From Last year brand’s sells of Santa Cruz pickup was 10% down this year.
