Honda has officially introduced its new electric SUV, the S7, in China. As Honda’s first high-end electric SUV, the S7 promises over 400 miles (650 km) of driving range, premium comfort, and a sleek new design. Competing with the Tesla Model Y and other luxury electric SUVs, the S7 starts at approximately $36,000.
Meet the Honda S7 Electric SUV
Honda’s Chinese joint venture, Dongfeng-Honda, had been teasing the S7’s bold styling, hinting at a breakthrough moment. On Thursday, the company officially launched the new electric SUV, which is expected to play a crucial role in company’s comeback in China’s competitive EV market.
The S7 is now available for purchase starting at 259,900 yuan (around $36,000). In terms of dimensions, it closely matches the Tesla Model Y, measuring 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height. For comparison, the Model Y is slightly longer at 4,797 mm, with a width of 1,920 mm and a height of 1,624 mm.
Honda claiming that the designed the SUV from the ground up for buyers in China, offers better driving experience to them with more fun and style. It features new “H Mark,” exclusive for its next-gen EV lineup. Other designed elements include a light-up H logo up font, a foot-sensing electric tailgate, and retractable door handles.
The coming SUV is available in both single-motor (RWD) and dual-motor (AWD) variant options. The RWD variant includes a 268 hp (200 kW) electric motor and an 89.8 kWh NMC battery pack that is good for a 650 km (404 miles) CLTC range.
On the other hand the AWD comes with an added front motor, with power packs up to 469 hp (350 kW) and is boast with 620 km (385 miles) CLTC driving range.
From inside, the electric SUV S7 is first to come with a dimming panoramic sunroof, spacious interior with up to 860 mm of second-row legroom with a 2,930 mm wheelbase. Other premium features includes a 3-spoke multi-function leather steering wheel, streaming media rearview mirror, a fragrance system, and BOSE sound system.
To make it tech friendly automaker has loaded it with the latest software and connectivity tech that includes Honda’s most powerful smart cockpit with split 12.8-inches and 10.25 smart infotainment screen and 9.9-inches instrument display.
Also Honda Connect 4.0 provides an AI Voice Assistant, multi-screen linking, and continuous improvement with AI. Meantime, Honda Sensing 360+ includes ADAS features like active cruise control, pre-collision warming, lane keeping assist, parking assist, and a 360-degree panoramic imaging system.
