Polestar has officially unveiled its long-anticipated Polestar 5 GT at the IAA Mobility Show in Munich, and open order books in select markets. The reveal marks a huge milestone for the Swedish EV brand, which first teased the model as the Precept Concept in 2020. Over the last five years, we’ve seen prototypes at the Goodwood Festival of Speed and validation mules in Europe, but now the production-ready version is finally here, and it’s aiming straight at the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan.
The coming Polestar 5 GT is the brand’s first EV to ride on a bespoke 800V platform, unlocking charging speeds up to 350 kW DC fast charging. That means the EV gets 10–80% charging in about 10 minutes under ideal conditions. The Polestar 5 features a 112 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery pack, positioned as both a high-performance GT and a long-distance cruiser.

As Pep Polestar CEO Michael Lohscheller:
Polestar 5 is bringing the future to our present. Our vision for Polestar’s design, technology, and sustainability direction is no longer a dream but a reality our customers can buy. With its pure Scandinavian design inside and out, unique platform, powerful motors, sophisticated chassis, cutting-edge technology, and consciously sustainable materials, the Polestar 5 is a guiding star for the industry and the perfect Polestar flagship.
Aerodynamic Scandinavian Design
As we all well-known about the Polestar’s design DNA, the Polestar5 GT also combines minimalism with aerodynamic efficiency. Highlights include:
Cd drag coefficient of 0.24 for the Dual Motor trim.
Full-width rear light bar and integrated diffuser.
Retractable door handles for a seamless profile.
Scandinavian-inspired sustainable materials throughout the cabin.
Inside the EV you’ll find a 14.5-inch vertical center display that is powered by Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, alongside a minimalist driver-focused cockpit.
Safety and ADAS Technology
Previously confirmed its use of Luminar LiDAR, but now Polestar has clarified that the 5 will rely on Mobileye’s camera-based SmartZone system instead. This includes:
11 vision cameras.
1 driver monitoring camera.
12 ultrasonic sensors.
1 mid-range radar.
This setup mirrors what’s already in the Polestar 4, focusing on vision-based autonomy rather than lidar-heavy redundancy.
Sustainability as a Core Identity
Polestar has built much of its brand around consciously sustainable materials, and the 5 continues that push. From recycled composites to responsibly sourced metals, the model aims to serve as a “guiding star” for the industry, in the words of CEO Michael Lohscheller.
Pricing, Availability, and What’s Next
As per Polesert, The Polestar 5 GT is now open for orders in 24 out of 28 current markets, with first deliveries expected in 2026. Unfortunately, North American pricing and availability have not yet been announced, though Polestar has confirmed updates will follow soon.
In Germany, the starting MSRP is €119,000 (~$139,750), placing it in direct competition with high-end EV sedans. Polestar is also using the IAA stage to push its policy agenda, calling on EU leaders to stick with the 2035 combustion ban target to ensure industry confidence and climate responsibility.
The Polestar 5 GT is more than just another EV launch — it’s a statement car. With its 884 hp performance trim, ultra-fast charging, aerodynamic design, and Scandinavian minimalism, it clearly positions itself as the flagship of the Polestar lineup. If U.S. pricing and availability fall in line with Europe, the 5 could become a legitimate rival to Tesla’s Model S Plaid and Porsche’s Taycan Turbo.
For now, fans in Europe and Asia will get the first taste, while North American customers will need to wait a little longer to see this sleek Polestar 5 GT on the roads.
