President of Mack Trucks North America Jonathan Randal saying, “Mack Trucks is proud to support PITT OHIO in its emissions reduction efforts. We look forward to continuing to work with PITT OHIO and our other battery-electric vehicle (BEV) customers as they navigate the sustainability journey by offering a total ecosystem of support.”
However these new electric trucks are a small fraction of PITT OHIO’s massive fleet, they symbolize a significant shift towards a more sustainable future. To further support this transition, PITT OHIO is installing DC fast charging stations at its Harrisburg terminal, which is expected to be operational by Q1 2025. This infrastructure investment underscores the company’s belief in the growing importance of electric vehicles in their operations.
Taki Darakos, vice president of vehicle maintenance and fleet services at PITT OHIO, also explained, “We believe that this order will help jump-start our electrification activities. We’ve allowed the technology to come to us rather than forcing it. The Mack MD Electric vehicles will provide the best range and payload from a value standpoint, mirroring 85% of our conventional box truck fleet.”
The Mack MD Electric trucks feature impressive specs that include a 260-horsepower electric motor and a robust 240 kWh battery that charges from 20% to 80% in just an hour. Which ensures that these trucks are ready to meet the demands of daily operations while contributing to a reduction in emissions.
