Recent announcement of Volvo, is that the brand is launching the world’s “first EV battery passport” with the coming Volvo EX90. It is said that the eclectic SUV will hit the market with the EV Battery Passport later this year. With this Volvo become one of the automakers who kept themself up to date with the latest tech and development.
The announcement is in conjunction with the Volvo legacy to be the first automakers to commit to an all-electric future. In recent talk with Reuters, Volvo reveals that the brand is launching ”the world’s first EV battery passport.”
Volvo has been working with UK startup Circulor over the past five years to develop the plan and solution of the EV battery passport. It will work on blockchain technology and will also show buyers information about the vehicle’s battery including its composition, where its materials are from, its recycles content and its carbon footprint.
In Europe it will be mandatory for new electric cars to have Battery Passport from February 2027. To keep it in mind Volvo has worked hard to develop one such. Also the company’s head of global sustainability, Vanessa Butani told Reuters, “Volvo is getting ahead of the pack.”
He further added it’s really important for us to be a pioneer and a leader. By launching it three years prior to the deadline, Volvo aims to be more transparent with buyers as it moves toward an all-EV future.
Volvo also makes it easy to monitor, to view key battery information owners can scan a QR code on the inside of the driver’s side door and get it. At present only the Volvo EX90 will have such a facility but eventually it will be included on all Volvo electric cars in future.
