Volvo Confirms New EX60 Mid-Size Electric SUV to Lead Next-Gen EV Tech Strategy

Are you ready to drive a brand new Volvo mid-size SUV? Volvo has confirmed the new EX60 Mid-size electric SUV would be one of five new EVs joining the Swedish brand’s lineup. This announcement comes after brand has pushing back it’s 100% EV sales pledge by 2030.

Currently Volvo has offering five EVs such as the EX40, EC40, EX30. EM90 and the recently added EX90. The brand has also said that five more models are on the way after announcing its new electrification strategy this week. 

On Thursday, Volvo has unveiled it’s new “game-changing” tech strategy from the event of Capital Market Day in Sweden. This strategy revels that the company is channeling all of its engineering efforts towards “making cars that get better with time.” explained by Anders Bell, Volvo Car’s chief engineering and technology officer.

However the brand has extending it’s fully electrification process but it still believes that electric cars are the future. It is said in the coming 5 modes one would be a new mid-size electric SUV. Volvo confirmed the EX60 Mid-Size Electric SUV will be the first car built on it’s next-gen SPA3 platform.

The SPA3 is a newly added Volvo’s tech base, which will be underpinned by its new Volvo Cars Superset tech stack. The new SPA3 platform also enable Volvo to “continuously develop and build cars of all sized,” including those larger than the EX90 and even smaller than the EX30.

Volvo has fitted its new Superset tech stack in the EX90 and this new tech will be the basis for all feature electric cars. Volvo said the stack can be used for a wide range of models as its features tech of all modules and functionalities in a single tech and software base.

Volvo said  its work with the EX90 will benefits upcoming EVs including theEX60 Mid-Size Electric SUV and ES90. The ES90 will be Volvo’s new Polestar 2-like electric sedan. The official debut of the ES90 will be in March 2025. It will be based on Volvo’s current SPA2 tech base which underpins the current EX90 model of Volvo.
