It is exiting to hear that the Volkswagen has finally ready to offers it’s cheapest eclectic car. The VW ID.2 is the brand’s on of the cheapest EV till date which has been officially spotted for the first time when it is out for testing. It is another affordable EV in the row with the prices tag of $27,500 or 25,000 euro.
VW has unveiled it’s affordable EV concept ID.2 over a year ago against the low-cost EVs of Tesla and other leading automakers. Also according to VW Passenger Cats CEO Thomas Shafer, “ the electric car shows where we want to take the brand.”
The coming EV is based on an upgraded version of MEB platform, which is also found brand’s other running ID models also Ford’s Electric Explorer and New Capri EV for Europe is also based on it. It is also expected that ID.2 will boast up to 279 miles (450 km) according to the WLTP range.
Recently a production models was spotted racing around the famous Nurburgring track ahead of EV official debut. Also wile wrapping up the design of production models head designed Andreas Mindt said the ID.2 looks even batter than the concept.
According to AutoExpress you can not see much with the ID.3 body sitting on top. However it is still an important development by VW after recent delays to the Volkswagen’s Trinity EV, which is now expected to come in 2032.
Volkswagen is also done a partnership with Rivian to accelerate their development in the industry with the help of Rivian’s software expertise. On this note a recent report by Handelsblatt claims VW’s MEB platform will be upgraded to the MEB+ in 2026, aligning with the ID.2 launch.
It is expected that the automaker will unveil it’s production ID.2 model in late 2025 or early 2026. And also plans to launch a SUV crossover version that will follows the lineup as Volkswagen is aiming to secure it’s place in the growing electric vehicle market.
