Volkswagen has introduced its latest electric car in China. The ID.UNYX electric SUV is the brand new addition to its electric fleet. It is the addition in the electric fleet sub-brand as VW looks to take on BYD and Tesla in the world’s longest EV market. Features smart human-machine interface with a customizable 3D avatar with range around 600 Km.
The new electric SUV is specifically designed for “technically and visually” younger drivers of China’s. VW brand CEO Stepfan Mecha said, “With the new ID. UNXY, we are expanding the spectrum of our electric ID. models in China with an avant-grade product,” at the launch event.
VW offers ID.UNYX as another affordable EV, the base-level model starts at just under $29,000 (RMB 209,900). Meanwhile the mid-trim costs around $31,700 (RMB 229,900) and the highest model starts at $34,400 (RMB 249,900).
Based on VW’s MEB platform, the coming EV is 4,663 mm long, 1860 mm wide, and 1,610 mm tall, which makes it a competitor of Tesla Model Y that is 4,750 mm long, 1,921 mm wide, and 1,624 mm tall.
For power and performance all trim features a CATL-supplied battery pack, with the entry-level version powered by a 210 kW (286 PS) electric motor and a 77 kWh battery, achieving a range of up to 621 km (CLTC standard). An all-wheel-drive version with two electric motors and an output of 250 kW (340 PS) will also be available.
Developed at Volkswagen’s new innovation and development center in Hefei, the ID.UNYX features innovations such as an interactive, AI-based 3D avatar with option to customized appearance via an app and synchronized with the Vehicle’s HMI.
VW plans to introduce four more new models under the ID.UNYX sub-brand by 2026. These will include SUVs and Sedans forming a central part of VW’s strategy for China. Mecha also said Intelligently networked electric models such as the new ID. UNYX are the key to attracting young, lifestyle-oriented target groups and retaining existing customers for the Volkswagen brand.”
