Recently a Tesla Cybertruck had caught on fire due to an explosion in front of the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas that took the limelight. However it is not new as in the lot of a Tesla store in North Decatur, Georgia, near Atlanta also caught on fire. The local fire authorities suspect a battery fire.

While the Las Vegas incident involved firework-like explosives in the back of the Cybertruck and was likely intentional, authorities do not suspect foul play in this separate case.

The incident occurred in the early hours of December 31st at the Tesla store on Church Street in Decatur, Georgia. Although the fire was swiftly extinguished, it completely destroyed the vehicle’s interior, along with the bed and tires.

Here are some images of the aftermath from Atlanta News First:

Local news outlets reported that fire authorities suspect the battery pack may have caused the fire, though an investigation is still ongoing. Previously, there have been a few cases of Cybertrucks catching fire, but those incidents occurred following crashes.

The Cybertruck explosion yesterday is now suspected to be a result of foul play, though the investigation is still ongoing. While electric vehicle batteries are known to occasionally catch fire, data shows they do not ignite at a higher rate than fossil fuel-powered vehicles.

Media recently reported that Tesla is having an issue with the Cybertruck’s battery pack. Tesla has referred to the problem as “cell dent.” Tesla is having to replace battery packs in many Cybertrucks, including some sitting at its lots, but there’s no evidence that this issue is linked to this specific fire at this time. .

Tesla has not yet issued a service bulletin or recall regarding the issue, even though it has replaced the battery packs for some customers affected by it.
