Are you ready for another speed record breaking EV? In a stunning display of speed, the McMurtry Speirling has claimed the title of the fastest closed-wheel car at Germany’s Hockenheim GP circuit, defeating the previous record set by the Mercedes-AMG One. So you can say the Mercedes-AMG is no longer the fastest car. With a blistering lap time of 1 minute and 24.4 seconds, the diminutive yet powerful electric vehicle outpaced the AMG One’s 1 minute and 38.5 seconds by a remarkable 14.1 seconds.
The Speirling is a purpose-built as track-only machine. It not only brat the AMG one, but it also surpassed a DTM race car’s 2020 record by 3.9 seconds, showcasing its power on the track. Piloted by former F1 driver Max Chilton on June 8, the car ran on 75 percent of its potential power and downforce, emphasizing its capability even in a validation prototype state.
Boasting a peak output of around 1,000 horsepower delivered to the rear wheels, the McMurtry Speirling is a compact yet formidable electric car.
Measuring 135.8 inches long, 62.2 inches wide, and just 40.1 inches tall, it makes the Miata look like a Super Duty by comparison. It weighs under 2,200 pounds, making it lighter than an ND-generation MX-5 Miata while packing nearly five times the horsepower.
Equipped with a 60-kWh battery, the Speirling is designed for sheer performance, achieving neck-snapping acceleration and maintaining power for 10 laps of Silverstone at full throttle. The battery can be charged in under 20 minutes, ensuring minimal downtime between track sessions.
The McMurtry Speirling is not just a marvel of engineering but also a rare gem, with only 100 units planned for production. Priced at £895,000 (approximately $1.13 million), it is set to begin deliveries in 2025. This ultra-exclusive EV redefines speed and performance, leaving an indelible mark on the racing world.
