Mazda has introduced a sleek new variant of its EZ-6 electric sedan, initially launched in China in October 2024. Priced starting at 139,800 yuan (approximately $19,200), the EZ-6 garnered significant attention, with nearly 2,500 units sold in its first month, placing it among the top three mid-size new energy vehicle (NEV) sedans from joint ventures in China.

The EZ-6 is available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) configurations. The BEV version offers a range of up to 600 km (372 miles) on the Chinese CLTC cycle, powered by either a 56.1 kWh or 68.8 kWh battery pack. The EREV variant combines a petrol engine with an electric motor, extending the range to approximately 1,301 km (808 miles).

After successfully thriving in the China market, Mazda introduced the global version, the 6e earlier this year. This new EV will arrive in Europe and other regions later this year. The first 6e model rolled off the assembly line at Changan Mazda’s Nanjing plant last month. It is the new global R&D, Manufacturing and export hub of automaker.

Mazda Japan, Europe, and China have developed the sports edition of the EV to give it a distinct style. It has been unveiled in a recent event in Nanjing and will likely also arrive overseas.

As per automaker, the new sporty EZ-6 variant is designed for younger drivers. However, the automaker has not unveiled the price of the EV, but it is expected that it has a higher price tag than the base $20,000 model.

The sporty edition gains a few upgrades like black side skirts and wheels, red brake callipers, and more. With interior features a new blacked-out “combat-style” cockpit, suede seats, and red stitching to look like a sports car.

In the China market, the EZ-6 is available with all-electric (EV) and extended-range (EREV) powertrains. The fully electric version of the electric car is based on Changan’s hybrid platform and offers a driving range of up to 600 km (373 miles CLTC). Also, the recharging time is from 30% to 80% in about 15 minutes.
