Kia’s Birthday Surprise: The Iconic Pride Returns as a Powerful EV

On the occasion of its’s 80th-anniversary Kia has unveiled the Pride EV as a gift to itself. Kia is calling it a true ‘socket rocket’ the electric restored swaps the 90’s model gas-powered engine with an all-electric powertrain packing with double power.

Kia claims the electric hot hatch is the “most powerful of its kind ever created,” deeming it a true socket rocket. The coming EV- The Pride comes with nearly all the new parts from the original combustion components with a more powerful, all electric powertrain.

The Electric Pride is the all revamped version of the original combustion car. But the only featured that you find in it is its five-speed manual transmission and drive shafts to “ensure maximum driver engagement.”

Kia has replaced the engine, fuel tank, and filler neck with an electric motor, twin 10 kWh battery packs, and a charging port. Now the electric Pride EV boost up to 107 bhp (80 kW) and 173 lb-ft of torque that produced nearly double the power of the gas-powered model. With this electric configuration the electric hot hatch to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 8 seconds.

Kia has introduces the three driving modes of the EV :- Eco, Sport and Auto. The coming EV is packed with a battery of 20 kWh capacity and can drive up to 120 miles in on a single charge in “Eco” mode as per Kia.

Further the Pride EV will produce 60 bhp while torque in capped at 87 lb-ft (118 Nm) in Eco mode. For Sport mode, Kia said the restomod is “not a day-to-day kind of Pride.” It produced max power of 107 bhp and torque 173 lb-ft and can accelerated from 0 to 62 mph in an estimated 8 seconds.

Kia also claims the restomod is “the most powerful of its kind ever created,” deeming it a “true socket rocket.” It is also expect that later this year Kia will independently confirm the Pride EV’s specs in all three modes. The converted model was built at Electrogenic’s Oxfordshire, UK plant.
