The announcement that Jeep is set to introduce another low-cost electric vehicle follows the news that the Jeep’s first fully electric vehicle for the US will officially debut this week. According to Stellanties CEO Carlos Tavares, Jeep plans to launch a $25,000 EV in the U.S. near future.
Tavares said, “In the same way we brought the 20,000 Euro Citroen e-C3, you will have a $25,000 Jeep very soon,” at a Bernstein investor conference Wednesday.
Introduction of the Jeep as an affordable EV comes as the brand aims to compete with other low-cost EVs. The low-cost price of the EV makes it one of the most affordable EVs in the U.S. market after Nissan LEAF and Ariya.
Tavares said that the company is aiming to achieve cost parity between EVs and gas-powered cars within the next three years. This announcement aligns with global trends, such as the Chinese manufacturer BYD has already launched the low-priced Seagull EV at $9,700 in China. Volkswagen also confirmed its plans to launch a €20,000 EV in 2027 this week, primarily targeting the European market.
Several other manufacturers are also looking to make the EV market affordable. Kia is preparing to launch the EV3 next month in Korea, expected to start around $30,000, while Volvo’s EX30 and the Chevy Equinox EV are also priced competitively at $34,950 and $34,995, respectively.
The introduction of a $25,000 Jeep EV could significantly impact the market, offering consumers a rugged, affordable electric SUV option. With Stellantis’ commitment to producing safe, clean, and affordable BEVs, the future looks promising for budget-conscious EV buyers.
