Ford is ready to introduce its new all-electric “sport crossover” next week, the news broke out as Automotive News reveals.” Ford will unveil the new Capri EV sports crossover on June 10, 2024.
Ford introduced a new all-electric “sports crossover” built on Volkswagen’s MEB platform, that is the same foundation used for the Electric Explorer. Following the recent production of the all-electric Explorer at Ford’s Cologne EV plant in Germany, this upcoming model marks the next step in Ford’s EV lineup expansion.
Ford said a second EV will be revealed shortly with production scheduled to begin later this year. The new EV is described as a “sports crossover,” is part of a 2020 deal with VW to use its MEB platform that is the same platform on while VW ID series is built on.
The new crossover is expected to be named as the Capri, to pay homage to the iconic fastback coupe popular in the 1970s. Media reports suggest that Ford will officially unveil the Capri EV sports crossover on July 10, 2024. The Capri is much like other MEB-based vehicles. It features a long wheelbase and a wide stance, drawing comparisons to the Cupra Tavascan.
The Capri and Explorer EVs are anticipated to be similar to Volkswagen’s ID.4 and ID.5, with the Explorer boasting a range of up to 374 miles (600 km) using a new battery. The dual-motor Explorer EV shares its 335 hp powertrain with VW’s GTX models, featuring a 79 kWh battery. Pricing for the single-motor model starts at £45,875 ($58,000), with a standard range version available later starting at around £39,875 ($50,000).
