Ferrari is an Italian luxury sports car maker that is gaining the limelight of every one as it is preparing to launch its first ever EV. But the brand has recently inaugurated a new building that is fully powered by renewable energy. This newly opened plant is set to launch the first Ferrari EV sports car.
The news of new inauguration broke out when sources told Reuters this week that Ferrari first EV sports car will cost at least $535,000 (500,000 euros).
CEO, Benedetto Vigna said the new factory will “light up” Ferrari’s future. The opening of the e-building will continue the legacy of the Ferrari to redefine the limits of what’s possible. It is said the first Ferrari EV sports car will be built at the facility alongside its next-gen hybrids and ICE vehicles.
On the opening of the e-building Ferrari has said the facility will also produce batteries, electric motors, and inverters for Ferrari’s EV. That will help to improve the efficiency and flexibility.
The e-building is equipped with over 3,000 solar panels on the roof that produces 1.3 MW of energy. Ferrari said that by reusing rainwater and energy in the production cycle, 60% of the energy used for battery and motor testing would be recovered and redirected.
In addition to that, the resource also told, the first EV, Ferrari is already working on a second electric vehicle, sources also told that to Reuters. Although this is still in the early stages of development, this second model is expected to enhance production capacity at Ferrari’s e-building facility. This factory is also set to produce essential components such as electric motors, inverters, and batteries for new EVs and hybrids, while also handling vehicle assembly.
Ferrari launched its first plug-in hybrid last year, the SF90 Stradale, as it electrifies the brand. By 2026, Ferrari aims for EVs and PHEVs to account for 60% of sales.
Ferrari enters into the electric market when rival luxury automakers are also embracing electrification. Lamborghini also officially revealed its first fully electric car- the Lanzador EV, last August. Also the sleek 2+2 electric GT is expected to hit the market in 2028, alongside the launch of the Huracan and Urus PHEVs this year.
