Another Chinese leading automaker Dongfeng Motor has launched it’s new low-cost EV in the European market to compete with giant such as Volkswagen. It is one the Chinese oldest and largest automakers who are now trying it’s fate in Europe with latest affordable EV.
The coming EV of Dongfeng Motor is the Dongfeng Nammi Box EV with the starting price at near $25,500. It the another step of the step of the brand after introducing it’s EV in Switzerland. As entering the market this low-cost Chinese EV is one of the most affordable electric cars in Europe.
As there is a new EU tariffs on Chinese EV imports, the Nammi Box could be one of the first vehicles of brand build at Dongfeng’s potential Italy plant. Also earlier this month a source revealed to Reuters that the talks between Italian government and Dongfend were at an advanced state. The plant could help the automaker sidestep expensive duties.
The Nammi Box EV is powered by a 42.3 kWh batter pack that offers an impressive range of 193 miles (310 km) of WLTP range. It makes it one of the challenger of another low-cost EVs like that Citroen e-C3 in Europe with comes with a 44 kWh battery pack and offers up to 193 miles of range.
There is also another version of the EV with 31.5 kWh battery is available in China currently, which is not expected to be offered in Europe. Currently the Nammi Box is currently available to reserve with the starting price of CHF 21,990 ($25,500) as per official website.
Dongfeng is another automakers in the growing list of Chinese automakers launching new EV models in Europe. In the line-of expansion, Dongfeng’s premium Voyah brand plans is to launch a new electric SUV, Zhiyin for export next month, according to CEO Lu Fang
