BYD’s popular Dolphin EV is set for an upgrade, with a leaked image in China offering a first look at the updated model.
Last Monday, BYD’s new Dolphin EV was leaked by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Tech (MIIT). The Dolphin is one of the BYD’s most affordable electric cars that start with a price under $13,800 (99,800 Yuan). Even though BYD just launched the 2025 model in July, the electric hatch is already set for an upgrade.
The updated mode features slightly modified front and rear ends that is giving it a more sporty, athletic look. Like the other refreshed cars, BYD switched out the “Build Your Dreams” bedge on the back for its new ”BYD” logo.
BYD’s New Dolphin EV Closer Look
It is an EV with 4,280 mm long, 1,770 mm wide and 1,570 mm tall body that is 155 mm longer than the current 2025 model.
As anticipated, the new model will continue to be powered by BYD’s Blade LFP battery packs. It will offer three electric motor options: 70 kW (94 hp), 150 kW (201 hp), and a new 130 kW (174 hp) option.
BYD is also enhancing its updated models with new ADAS features, including optional front, rear, and side radar and cameras. Additional optional features include a panoramic sunroof, black roof, rear privacy glass, and various rim options.

Automaker has not revealed much related to pricing and other additional specs details as it will come close to launch. However it is said that the 2025 BYD Dolphin EV is available in four trims: Vitality, Free, Fashion and Knight, with up to 520 km (323 miles) CLTC range.
BYD’s Vitality, Free, and Fashion Dolphin EV models come equipped with a 45 kWh battery, offering a range of up to 420 km (261 miles) on the CLTC cycle. The top-tier Knight trim delivers up to 520 km (323 miles) of CLTC range, with a starting price of $18,000 (129,800 yuan).
