BYD’s latest ultra-luxury Yangwang brand unveiled its latest U9 electric sports car. It recently showcased its prowess on the renowned Nurburgring track. With four electric motors producing over 1,200 horsepower, the U9 positions itself as a formidable rival to traditional sports car giants like Ferrari.
Yangwang officially unveiled the U9 in February 2023 as its second model from the Yangwang brand, following the U8 SUV. According to BYD, it features an impressive acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.36 seconds, surpassing the performance metrics of many V12-powered sports cars. Such as the Ferrari SF90 Stadale, powered by a twin-turbocharged V8, achieves the same speed in 2.5 seconds, while the Bugatti Chiron does so in 2.4 seconds.
A prototype of BYD’s electric sports car was spotted racing around the Nurburgring this week. Also a video release form CarSpyMedia gives a better glimpse of the Sporty EV performance.
Pricing for the Yangwang U9 starts at approximately $233,400 (1,680,000 yuan), a competitive figure compared to other high-end electric sports cars such as Ferrari SF90 Stradale’s $500,000. Also the vehicle’s dimensions ,(4,966 mm long, 2,029 mm wide and 1,295 mm tall) are similar to the Lamborghini Aventador, offering a blend of luxury and performance in a sleek package.
BYD says also from Inside, the U9 boasts a “the smartest supercar cockpit” with advanced technology, including DiLink and DiPilot systems, two LCD screens, a 10.25-inch driver display, and a 12.3-inch vertical infotainment screen. Some models also feature an additional 10.25-inch passenger screen if chosen.
With deliveries of the U8 already underway and priced over $150,000, BYD’s Yangwang brand is making significant strides in the luxury electric vehicle market. The U9’s debut at the Nurburgring marks a bold step forward, hinting at a future where electric supercars dominate the performance landscape.
