BYD, a Chinese automaker, has just unveiled its another all- electric car The Yuan Up in China, which is expected to strengthen the company’s position in the entry-level part of the market.

The upcoming electric car is based on the e-Platform 3.0 – that is also used in the standard Yuan model, and is powered by BYD’s  Blade Battery made up of a long lithium-ion LFP cell. Its length is 4,310 mm, width is 1,830 mm, height is 1,675 and the wheelbase is 2,620 mm.

In China BYD Yuan will come in three trim levels. The entry-level one is equipped with a 32-kilowatt-hour battery for up to 187 miles (301 km) of CLTC range. The peak power output is 70 kilowatts, while the peak torque is 180 Nm. The car also accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in about 12 seconds.

With batter specs the two other trim also catches the eyes of the consumers. It is a large battery pack of 45.12 kWh that is capable of 249 miles (401 km) of CLTC range. The other more powerful electric motor of 130 kW with 290 Nm peak is also there. It can accelerate the car from 0 to 62 mph in just 7.9 seconds. Where the entry level electric car will start at nearly $13,400 these more powerful versions will come with price tags of $15,200 and $ 16,600.

The company is aiming to increase its sales volume with the Yuan Up.  According to CvEVPost, to attract more customers, the company offers a $277 trade-in subsidy and a 24-period 0% interest loan.

China’s EV market is currently facing an ongoing price war that will further get accelerated with the introduction of new affordable models in something that should boost the Chinese EV market. It is also said that the BYD Yuan Up might be challenging to Tesla, which has yet to unveil its affordable EV.
