On the occasion of the New Puma launch, Ford said that the all-electric Gen-E model will come into market later this year as the brand expands its European EV lineup. Last March Ford has already revealed the electric version of its best-selling SUV, the Explorer. In that line now the brand has committed to come with an all-electric Puma Gen-E later this year.
It is the brand’s second car based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB EV platform and will arrive in market as a cuisine of the new Ford’s electric SUV Explorer. Also the glimpse of the car shows the shape of the Puma was clear to see, even with its blanked-off front grille.
According to Autocar, Ford said it “engineered the electric powertrain together for Puma and Courier at the same time,” hinting they will have similar specs. Ford’s E-Transit Courier features up to 236 miles (380 km) range, which suggests the Puma Gen-E could boast around the same.
The Puma will share its platform and powertrain with the new Ford E-Transit Courier van. This uses an electrified version of Puma’s font-driven B2E architecture, Ford said it had “engineered the electric powertrain together for Puma and Courier at the same time”, suggesting the two will share broadly similar specifications.
Ford said it’s working on only one battery for the smallest electric Transit, which, based on the fact that a 100kW charger will give a 10-80% top-up in less than 35 minutes and can add 54 miles of range in 10 minutes, is expected to be around 55kWh in capacity.
Considering power, Ford has multiple powertrain options to make EV more performance driven. It can use a 134bhp motor as a sibling van. Also 181bhp and265bph units used in the biggest E-Transit. However the new electric version of Puma will be more expensive than the available ICE Puma that is around $31,572 that is speculative near $ 44,200.
