Recently a leaked notice from the suppliers made us learn that Ram is shelving plans to build the long-range electric pickup model.
The automaker has introduced its first electric pickup the Ram 1500 REV in 2023 and said it would be available in two battery sizes: 168 kWh and 229 kWh. The standard 168 kWh battery is expected to provide up to 350 miles of range. Meanwhile the claimed massive 229 kWh battery would unlock over 500 miles of driving range.
The supplier notice, views by MoparInsiders, state, “As Stellantis continues to focus on the launch of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and Ram 1500 REV (BEV L), the company has made the decision to cancel the Light Duty RAM 1500 DT XL (long range variant)”.
Stellanties asked the suppliers to “immediately cease all activities” and suspend related to the project. The cancellation only applies to the long-range version.
The Ramcharger is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) pickup that is powered by a 92 kWh battery and 3.6-liter V6 engine that boost up to 690 miles of targeted range.
The 2024 model is set to launch in 2026, but the company is currently prioritizing the Ramcharger, which will be available in the first half of 2025. This delay follows a similar move by Chrysler, another Stellantis brand, which recently postponed the release of its highly anticipated electric crossover.
On a positive note, the first Jeep Wagoneer S and Dodge Charger Daytona EVs are finally making their way to US dealerships.
