China’s leading EV manufacturer, BYD, is venturing into an exciting new frontier. As electric vehicle sales continue to break records, BYD is setting its sights on the world of humanoid robots. To spearhead this ambitious initiative, the company has launched a global recruitment program to attract top talent and drive innovation in this emerging field.
BYD is dominating the global auto market, setting new milestones. In November, the Chinese automotive giant achieved a record-breaking 506,804 new-energy vehicle (EVs and PHEVs) sales, surpassing the 500,000 mark for the second consecutive month.
As per a recent social media Post, BYD plans to enter a new field: humanoid robots. The company announced that it’s looking for master’s and doctoral graduates from global universities to join its Embodied Intelligence Research Team.
BYD established its Embodied Intelligence Research Team in 2022 to create advanced robotic systems that support its expanding operations. The team has already developed several innovative robots, including Process, Smart Mobile, and Humanoid Systems.
Now, BYD aims to broaden its robotics expertise with a global recruitment drive.
Interested in joining BYD’s robotics team? Chinese students must complete their degrees between September 2024 and August 2025, while overseas candidates need to graduate between July 2024 and December 2025.
BYD’s global recruitment initiative is part of its larger strategy to expand AI and smart technology capabilities. The company recently revealed plans to invest 100 billion yuan ($13.7 billion) to drive advancements in intelligent technologies and accelerate the development of electric vehicles.
Automaker said the commitment will “ensure BYD remains at the forefront of technological advancement” as it looks to gain an edge in the global auto market.
Meanwhile, BYD is already leveraging robots to enhance its manufacturing processes. UBTECH, a leading Chinese robotics company, recently introduced the Walker S1 humanoid robot. Recognized as one of the most advanced humanoid robots in auto manufacturing, the Walker S1 has already secured over 500 pre-orders.
UBTECH has already established partnerships with prominent domestic automakers, including Geely, FAW-Volkswagen, and FAW-AUDI. A video showcases how BYD integrates the Walker S1 robot alongside an autonomous vehicle for efficient material sorting in its operations.
