It is great to hear that the VW electric Golf will come sooner than the expected time frame. This has happened due to the software expertise of Rivian which make it possible the Volkswagen is reportedly considered to brought the launch of Golf EV despite delaying its Tesla-rivaling Trinity EV.
To expand their electric lineup VW plans to invest up to $5 billion, $3billion of which will go to Rian and $2 billion in the joint venture. As we all know Volkswagen has recently come with a new partnership with Rivian, the brand is also excepts that the new joint venture to pay dividends.
The reports claiming that the Volkswagen’s MEB platform will be upgraded to the MEB+ by 2026 to make futuristic EVs. An the other great things is that PPE platform underpinning the new Porchse Macan EV will also get a software upgrade within the next 3 years due to Rivian’s help.
Sources suggest that the Golf EV could finally come tot he rode in 2029 or even sooner as the technical advancement happing. Also the first EV model will based on the SSP platform.
Also the conformation by the VW’s chief tech officer, Kai Gruntiz that “work on a fully electric Golf” has started. He further added that the Golf EV is the heart of out brand and VW doesn’t plant to phase out the name. He also confirmed that there will be a GTI model of coming Golf EV.
The brand has also timely hinted about their development as VW’s tech boss to Top Gear in January that it has to look like a Golf, it has to be affordable like a Golf. It ahs to be capable like a Golf.
At the event of 2026 LA Auto Show, Thomas Shafer, CEO of VW Passenger Cars also said, “We have iconic brnad name, Golf and GTI. It would be crazy to let themm die and slip away.” The coming electic hatchback is expected to go by the name of ID.Golf, aligign with VW’s ID series.
The Trinity EV was expected to launch in 2026, but the this time also it has been pushed back for later date. Now it is expected to come in 2032 six year later than original 2026 launch date as Handelsblatt learned from company insider.
