Ford introduced its revived Capri as the newest all-electric Ford on Wednesday. It has been 38 years since the gas-powered Capri was taken off the market. On Wednesday Ford officially unveiled the Capri as its second all-electric vehicle based on Volkswagen’s MEB platform.
After teasing for a long time, we all are finally getting the first look of the long awaited Capri EV. There has been a post on Ford’s social media showing a man trying to plug an EV charger into a Capri 2.8 Injection’s gas cap. A phrase “The legend is back” is also there on the vehicle windshield with date, July 10, 2024.
“The new all-electric Capri is exactly how the iconic sports coupe would have evolved had it stayed in production,” according to Ford. Added “The “soulful” electric sports coupe SUV is built for the whole family. It will “inject some would into the world of EVs”.
Coming in the 4,634 mm long, 2,063 mm wide and 1,626 mm tall framework, the new Capri is more aerodynamic. Feature a sleek coupe-like roofline, Black window pillars for sporty look, and a four-piece taillamp and rear stretching across the back.
Built on VW MEB platform the revived version of electric Capri features a 335 hp AWD powertrain, the same as used for VW’s GTX models. It goes up to 390 miles (627 km) WLTP driving range, with the acceleration of 0-62 mph in 5.3 seconds. Ford has offered two trims :- Capri and Capri Premium.
The RWD Capri EV is powered by a 77-kWH battery able to produce 390 miles (627 km) WLTP driving range and 282 hp. Whereas the Capri Premium offers a 79-kWh battery with AWD powertrain goes up to 368 miles (592 km) range, up to 355 hp (250kW). It also comes with fast charging capability of 10% to 80% in around 26 minutes.
Perfect for five people, it features a minimalist design that offers the latest tech and connectivity, such as a 14.6-inches adjustable infotainment system with Android auto and Apple CarPlay support. Other impressive features are 12 ultrasonic sensors, five cameras, and three radar devices to support driver assist functions like driver alerts and evasive steering assist.
