Hyundai’s iconic performing electric vehicle – IONIQ 5 is getting an upgrade. The Hyundai IONIQ-5 was introduced in February 2021 as Hyundai’s first dedicated EV build on Hyundai’s E-GMP platform.
Although the Hyundai has sold nearly 34,000 models in the US last Year. Since launched in the market the IONIQ 5 is the sixth best-selling EV of the brand, topping the Rivian R1S and Ford F-150 Lighting. The popular Hyundai IONIQ is getting updated after four years of launch even when the rivals are reporting “slower-than-expected” EV demand.
Data from the first five months of 2024, shows that Hyundai has sold nearly 15,000 IONIQ 5s in the US, that is 43% from the last year. Meanwhile the May sales of the EV is also set record high with 4,449 models, up 82% year on year.
Hyundai also said the updated 2025 IONIQ 5 will be the first vehicle produced at its new Metplant in Georgia. Hyundai’s global chief operating officer, Jose Munoz, called it a “no-brainer” to have the IONIQ 5 lead production at its new EV and battery plant.
During an interview with Automotive News last month, Munoz also said EVs like the IONIQ 5 will qualify for the $7,500 federal tax credit once production begins in GA.
Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant Amera (HMGMA) confirmed Tuesday that the 2025 IONIQ 5 will be the first production vehicle built at the facility. The new plant will make ll IONIQ trims (excluding the IONIQ 5 N) and will eventually be the only plant building Ioniq 5 models for the U.S.
President and CEO of HIMGMA, Oscar Know, said,” We are in the final phase of construction and are getting ready for the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 to roll off the line”. He also added it is the ideal vehicle for us to start production with.
As of now Hyundai has not officially reveals the 2025 IONIQ 5 for the U.S. market. But the launched 2025 Hyundai IONIQ gives an Idea. In March, Hyundai revealed the updated 2025 IONIQ 5 in Korea, with several new upgrades and features. Its new IONIQ features a bigger battery, new styling and an added rear wiper.
The IONIQ 5 refresh features a more powerful battery from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh battery. The increased battery power also extended the range of the vehicles from 458 km (285 miles) to 485 km (301 miles) in Korea. Another great update in the EV is charging speeds, now it gets charged slightly faster, enabling 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.
