The news from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) spilled the beans on Mini’s new electric crossover as the electric crossover made an early appearance to it.
The new Mini Aceman will be different from the old 5-door Mini Cooper but might take up some of the slack from the now supersized Mini Countryman. Rather than looking like the only concept of Aceman, it comes with a glowing front Union Jack grille. It looks like a smaller and sportier iteration of the new Countryman, with proportions more akin to a subcompact hatch than an SUV.
The all electric Mini Aceman embraces design of the contemporary Mini’s such as marked by angular lighting units, an octagonal grille, and defined fenders. Although the traditional elements of Mini are also presented like the signature wraparound greenhouse and short overhangs. Further Mini has already said that the Aceman is 4,075 mm long, 1,754 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, but the documents reveal the 2,606 mm wheelbase.
Presenting images show both the regular and S trims of the Mini Aceman, highlighting subtle styling distinctions between them. The upscale variant comes with fancier LED headlights, bronze accents on the skid plates, and an S badge on the tailgate. Other great feature is various alloy wheel designs ranging from 17 to 19 inches are fitted along with the optional features for he flagship JCW (John Cooper Works) trim like a prominent rear spoiler and decorative decals.
According to Yiche Auto, the Mini Aceman will be front-motor, front-wheel drive only. The car will come to either 181 horsepower (135 kW) for the standard model, or 214 horsepower (160 kW) for the Aceman S.
For power and battery Mini Aceman will share its underpinnings with the smaller Mini Cooper Electric. The entry-level model is expected to feature a single front-mounted electric motor producing 181 hp (135 kW/184 PS) and a 40.7 kWh battery pack.
Whereas, the Aceman S is expected to feature a more potent 215 hp (160 kW/ 218 PS) motor along with a larger 54.2 kW battery. According to documents from China, the latter is indicated to have a capped top speed of 170 kW/h. It is expected that the company will officially debut its new electric crossover at the Auto China show on April24.
